After about 3 hours drive from Stuttgart, we finally arrived at Cologne.
Cologne was originally founded by the Romans and it is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Cologne is in the western part of Germany and it lies on the famous Rhine. It is a major cultural and media center. University of Cologne is one of Europe's oldest universities.
Cologne's most famous landmark - Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom). It is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe.
The foundation stone was laid in 1248 and was built gradually until 1520. Then, it remained unfinished until the 19th century. Work resumed to the original Gothic designs in 1842 and finally the building was completed in 1880.
During World War II, the church got fourteen hits by the aerial bombs but the building did not collapse. Today, Cologne Cathedral is a major tourist attraction.
